The Resurgence of ICEBERG

Going to private school, I really didn't have to worry about wasting a lot of money on clothes. {yea, right} But of course being a teenager I was totally style/ fashion obsessed. Which brings me to my point, one of those clothing labels that I had a big crush on then was Iceberg, more specifically, their Iceberg History line. The company was started in 1962 by Silvo and Giuliana Gerani and is part of the Italian Gilmar group. Their line is synonymously know because of their capability to play with knits and later branching off into garments, perfume and furniture.

As I stated before the company gained a different following when they launched the Iceberg History brand, which featured America's most beloved Saturday Morning cartoons on it's trendy garments. {my ex even had a black Goofy Iceberg sweater} But about two seasons after Iceberg History came and went, the brand as a whole went back into quite seclusion. Not being seen on the runways since 2000

Imagine my surprise while thumbing through my April Harper's Bazaar, I saw a full two page spread. I couldn't contain my excitement. Hopefully the new ad campaign is a sign of good things to come and not another inkling that they are back only to fade away into the night like a thief.

Vivaty works with just about all popular social networking sites and lets you chat live, complete with a Second-Life style avatar! Imagine—your REAL Facebook friends will “come to life” as cartoon avatars! You get to navigate around different virtual locations, like the beach or creepy gothic warehouses—essentially, for whatever your personality type, there’s a place you’d like to spend time.
“With videogame-like precision, they can then navigate that virtual space, which may feature their Facebook photos hanging from the walls and a YouTube video playing on a widescreen TV. Up to 15 others can choose avatars and enter the same room at the same time for text-based live socializing.”
Essentially, it’s like Second Life or World of Warcraft, but without any installations—you can access it from any computer at any time.

Dresses of The Week

Did you really have to guess this? Just made the commitment to do a Dress of The Week Column, Shoe and maybe Bag of The Week Column since talking about dresses and shoes is what I do anyway. You definitely saw that coming, right? LOL Anyway, I remember seeing these beautiful long maxi dresses on the catwalk everywhere for the summer season and I wondered where I'd find them and what would be the most popular interpretation of them? I'm thinking long, flowy (Is flowy a word?), lots of material.....it's gonna be hot! I want a dress that's made with the weather in mind. It's got to float a little, you know? Dianne Von Furstenberg's "Washed Silk Strapless Maxi Dress." Beautifully colored in Emerald Green. I would also have liked to seen a red and a Emerald Blue but Ms. Furstenberg decided to stick with green. The next dress, this striped gypsy top dress is DKNY's contribution to the trend. They call it their "Long Stripe Off The Shoulder Habotai Dress." Comes in grey and white. The belt comes with it. I wouldn't wear a belt with it though, and if I did it would be solid black, grey or white. Both the Diane von Furstenberg and the DKNY are available at Bloomingdale's. This green dress with too many colors to name in it comes from Nordstrom. It called their "Single Dress Long Knot Front Dress." It has a beautiful mosaic print on it and it has "V" Neck. It's different. I venture to guess a little bit cooler on those oh-so-hot days to come.

Beauty Recognition Software

More than 2,000 years ago the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras observed the connection between math, geometry and beauty. He reasoned that features of physical objects corresponding to the “golden ratio” were considered most attractive. Though the saying goes “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, this time the beholder is a computer. Scientists at Tel Aviv University have developed computer software that can successfully “interpret attractiveness in women.” Recognizing “beauty” in men might be the next step, but it is more difficult. Psychological research has shown that there is less agreement as to what defines “male beauty” among human subjects. The software developer Amit Kagian said, “Until now, computers have been taught how to identify basic facial characteristics, such as the difference between a woman and a man, and even to detect facial expressions. But our software lets a computer make an aesthetic judgment. Linked to sentiments and abstract thought processes, humans can make a judgment, but they usually don’t understand how they arrived at their conclusions.” In the first step of the study, 30 men and women were presented with 100 different faces of Caucasian women, roughly of the same age, and were asked to judge the beauty of each face. The subjects rated the images on a scale of 1 through 7 and did not explain why they chose certain scores. Kagian and his colleagues then went to the computer and processed and mapped the geometric shape of facial features mathematically. Additional features such as face symmetry, smoothness of the skin and hair color were fed into the analysis as well. Based on human preferences, the machine "learned" the relation between facial features and attractiveness scores and was then put to the test on a fresh set of faces. (physorg)

Going Out!!!

Dresses to go out in this season are gorgeous. If there is one thing I know and love, it's dresses. Give me a beautiful dress (or blouse) any day of the week, it's just my favorite thing to wear. I don't mind if they are colorful or not. Just as long as they are styled to the hilt and made well. For instance this royal blue dress by Robert Rodriguez is kind of whimsical, everybody can't wear it, but it's cute! This one's available at Neiman Marcus. This black number by Chloe. It is called their "Bubble Sleeve Shift Dress." It's so chic! Finally this fiery red dress is by Alice + Olivia. It's called their "Trapeeze Dress." It's available at Nordstrom's but they have very limited quantities. Be bold, be different, be modern but always be you in whatever you wear. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." "We will not solve the problems of the world, from the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." More than anything else, this new century demands new thinking: We must change our materially based analyses of the world around us to include broader, more multidimensional perspectives."---Albert Einstein

Shopping By Text Messaging

I have to say I was wondering when this application would be a reality. Shopaholics rejoice! Let us do the dance of joy! The competition isn’t so happy but this is way, way cool. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) (AMZN)'s brick-and-mortar competitors have yet another reason to fear the Web: a new service that lets shoppers compare prices and buy things with a few quick taps on their cell phones. Amazon TextBuyIt, which launched late Tuesday, lets people text the name of a product, its description or its UPC or ISBN to 262966 (that's "Amazon" on the keypad) from anywhere their cell phones work - including from inside physical stores. The Service returns two results at a time, where you can buy one of the first two selections by texting "1" or "2," or you can ask for more info by texting the letter "M." Enter the e-mail address you have with your Amazon account and your shipping zip code and wait for the service to call you. They walk you through the checkout process with an automated voice system. Your then get confirmation by text e-mail and as well you can view your order on line. Howard Gefen, director of Amazon mobile payments, would not directly answer when asked if the service is meant to extend Amazon's reach by poaching customers browsing at bookstores or big-box electronics retailers. "We think this is a great experience. We think they'll use the product...wherever they happen to be," he said. (apnews.myway) Now hold on everybody, it's just a matter of time before we can BUY ANYTHING WE WANT BY TEXTING. LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN!!! UUHH DUHH!!! THAT'S WHAT THE UPC (UNIVERSAL PRODUCT CODE) SHOULD BE USED FOR!!! I THINK WE SAID THAT LOUD ENOUGH!!! WHOOOHOOO!!!

Armani-Get Together Campaign

Armani like Hugo Boss, has announced a project in which it has asked the public's help. The fashion house announced a contest in which they asked the public to design a print or video ad for Armani’s new fragrance, Get Together. The winning spot for the men and women’s fragrances will be used in the official campaign as well as earn the winner €10,000, or about $15,812. The contest site offers a look into some of the creations that have already been entered and users have the ability to vote on their favourite. A couple of them are featured in this gallery. A lot of entries look like they’re photos the photographer and his/her girlfriend/boyfriend, and why not? Having your image run in magazines would be a beautiful keepsake of your current relationship.
“For me Emporio Armani reflects a universal lifestyle, made up of energy, optimism and modernity,” Giorgio Armani says. “It’s an expression of life for today’s generation, something urban, chic and international. “‘Get Together’ … is the name I have chosen for the Emporio Armani fragrances. Opposites attract: men-women, positive-negative but different. Together but with respect for their individuality.” The designer added, “I would like this urban chic and international. “‘Get Together’ … is the name I have chosen for the Emporio Armani fragrances. Opposites attract: men-women, positive-negative but different. Together but with respect for their individuality.” The designer added, “I would like this urban message to be interpreted by you. I am offering you the challenge of creating my next Emporio Armani Classic advertising campaign.” User-generated commercials are a very modern, clever form of marketing that gets users engaged with the brand directly. Often, in order to participate in the contest, the entrants must actually buy the product. Furthermore, it costs the company next to nothing, saving millions of dollars in advertising costs, while engaging customers at a level no commercial created by an ad agency could.

Kate Hudson for WildAid

Kate Hudson is widely known for her natural ways, from her boho style of dressing to the environmental causes she supports. Most recently she’s supported WildAid in a project which saw her team with her long time hair stylist, David Babaii, to launch an eco-friendly haircare line. Hudson will donate 10 per cent of the proceeds to the foundation which aims to end the illegal trade of wild animals. In the African photo shoot for the ad campaign, shot by Peter Lindbergh, the young starlet posed with exotic animals like cheetahs and lion cubs. “I really have a thing about natural product,” she said. “It’s very difficult to make things that are completely organic and sustainable. David and I got so excited about making something like that. Making something conscious and making it good.” “We have a blast together,” she said of her stylist. “I’m just lucky to have him as my companion while I travel and work.” Kate, who is Goldie Hawn’s daughter, said her favourite animal to work with was the cheetah. “He was purring,” she said. “I remember listening to it and [asking], ‘Should I be running right now because his purr sounds more like a growl?’ But they’re like, ‘No. He’s just super happy.’ And I got really comfortable with it. And I would literally lay on the cheetah. It was really pretty cool.” She liked the lions too though. “Even though they’re babies, they are lions. They were very sweet. I would put them on their back and rub their tummy. And they would love it!”
