Salvatore Ferragamo has furthered its committment to environmentally-friendly causes with its Spring 2009 collection. The brand is launching Eco Ferragamo, a full line of bags created using a new ecologically-friendly tanning process. While most tanning processes involve the use of metal and result in the creation of pollutants, Ferragamo's exclusive technique creates biodegradable, water-resistant skins dyed using tannins taken from tree bark. The entire procedure is certified by the German institute SG - Mark, which ensures that no environmentally harmful substances have been used on the materials. The Eco Ferragamo line includes five hemp-lined styles, including a small tote, handbags and a maxi hobo in several different colors. Prices will range from $1,190 to $1,890, and the merchandise will appear in stores this February.
