Fashion Week Wrap-Up

It left as quickly as it came. Gratefully. I remained pretty patient throughout it though. I was about to stand up in the middle of it, throw a couple of shoes and exclaim, "Oh, come on are you kidding me? People this is Fashion Week not whatever week. Exactly what are you people doing?" It all seemed painfully, boring at first, I mean they were just missing the mark to me. OK let me be honest, that was the worst Fashion Week that I can remember. I was thinking, "What the hell is going on?" Could it be the economy? Because if it was they may as well not even have a fashion week. I literally saw people bailing in the middle of shows. Normally I would scoff at such behavior. Maybe I was mistaken, maybe it was my interpretation that was off. Then someone expressed the same sentiment that I did only a lot more colorful and then I knew it wasn't me. There were some designers that actually showed up and showed out they are:

  1. Barbie Collection (Assortment of Different Designers)
  2. Herve Ledger
  3. Jill Stuart
  4. Carolina Herrera
  5. Badgley Mischka
  6. Oscar de la Rente
  7. Michael Kors
  8. Zac Posen
  9. Malandrino
  10. Douglas Hannat
  11. Chaldo Ralph Ricci
  12. Ralph Lauren

So these are the people who continue to give me hope. They saved my Fashion Week. There are maybe 2 that deserve honorable mention however, they just didn't "bring it." I just hope the next Fashion Week will be a good one.

Fashion Week ---The 8th and Final Day

Ralph Lauren!, Chaldo Ralph Ricci!, Stephen Burrows ! Well, I guess they did save some of the best for last! As usual these men did their collective thing on the last day of Fashion Week. Although they had stellar performances it may not be enough to make up for the poor performances we saw earlier this week. We still thank God for the fact that they will be judged on their individual performances. So here are 3 of Fashion Week's saving graces!

Fashion Week---The Final Day

Mixed feelings is what I have following this Fashion Week's offerings. There were only about 5 designers that really stepped up to the plate and put on really good shows. Bummer if you really stop and think about it. Fashion Week was suppose to be my escape from all of the crazy things I hear on CNN and MSNBC. I think our society has become one of "resting on our laurels." I think that in whatever you do be it fashion, athletics, education, medicine or whatever someone or something has to happen to wake us up and shake us to be a nation or a world for that matter of people who are always building on the best. It's when we bring our best to the table that we are able to learn from that experience to grow. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. For all the designers who brought their "A Game" I applaud you. To those who didn't I'm pretty sure all the columnist have let you know who you are. You might try harder, do better, try a different strategy, push for the best. As for the argument that these shows are all about excess I say, "AND." That's part of the entire fashion "aura." We expect it to be excessive, outrageous, ridiculous, and ingenious. What we don't expect is that everyone can go out and buy it or that everyone will want to go out and buy it! That being said here's the schedule for the last day:

  1. Project Runway
  2. Ralph Lauren
  3. Tadashi Shoji
  4. Chado Ralph Rucci
Hopefully there will be surprises!

Fashion Week Day 7

I used to think it was rude to show up to the party and show out! In this case I'm about to do a couple of back flips or something because these three designers brought it! I mean they brought it! To be honest with you I was beginning to feel like this one wasn't even worth it. I mean every show was just so blah! I was thinking maybe it's the economy. But the economy is just an "EXCUSE." It's no reason for not showing up and doing your best. Then I thought maybe it's just me. Not, all my suspicions were laid to rest when someone said to me, "What on earth are they (the designers) doing this year?" It is a big mistake to feel that designers should somehow "tone it down" due to the economy. Suppressing creativity is sin and a shame for any reason. I was, we were, expecting the VERY BEST that designers have to offer regardless to what the economy is like. Now if this was the VERY BEST that some of the designers can do then it's time for me to pick another hobby. It's a sad commentary on the future and I simply refuse to believe that we don't have any more creative people.

Now that I've got that off my chest and out of my system, as I was saying earlier, the following three designers showed up and showed out!

Fashion Week Day 6

We defer to veteran Oscar De La Rente to keep Fashion Week exciting and most of all us interested. It's always interesting how his appearance at these events can drive everyone simply giddy with anticipation. Yes, he did deliver the goods! Classic yet up to the moment style. That's all I've been craving! He went there, he really did!

Michael Kors Collection, well what can you say other than it was exactly what I needed to see. It was sexy, it was sophisticated, it was in all respects what you would expect to see during Fashion Week (without expecting it).

Michael Kors Fall 2009

Phillip Lim has been extraordinarily consistent in bringing style and sophistication to his shows. He has established some clear cut guidelines for his house. Here he clearly did the white jacket with details that are so precise it rivals the best jackets I've seen. In fact it may be the best in terms of workmanship and style. It's just gorgeous! You really don't have to be a lover of fashion to know that this is from one of the best.
