Diesel's Dirty Thirty

Brand to release limited edition jeans just in time for their anniversary bash

W
e've been anxiously awaiting Diesel's "Dirty Thirty" anniversary bash for quite awhile, and given its imminent arrival, only one question remains--what to wear? Diesel's taken care of that, too. On Friday, limited-edition $50 jeans will be going on sale at Diesel stores nationwide. Expect a frenzy of shoppers trying to take advantage of the chic steal; the Dirty Thirty jeans will feature a back patch embroidered with "xXx," side embroidery with the dates 1978-2008, and customized buttons with "Diesel 1978."

As for Saturday's fĂȘte? Diesel's 24-hour global party will end with an epic bash in New York. The Rock and Roll Circus-themed party, held on Pier 3 on the Brooklyn Waterfront, will feature music by Benji and Joel Madden, Chaka Kahn, Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip, M.I.A., and N.E.R.D. Everyone from models Agyness Deyn and Chanel Iman, to Gossip Girl stars Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Taylor Momsen, to socials Lauren Santo Domingo and the Traina sisters are expected to show.

Diesel's Denim Gallery Gets A New Addition

Next week kicks off the 2008 New York Design week and Diesel in collaboration with Dutch design firm Moooi and Jaime Hayon {a Spanish artist} are presenting an exhibit called ARROJADOA, which is the Spanish translation for the word audacious but can also be referenced to a cactus that's identifiable by its vertical stacked elements. The installation focuses on totem sculptures composed with specific functions, like stools, tables, mirrors, and trays. Each element is made of different colors, materials, and finishes.

Renzo Rosso, president and founder of Diesel says, "At the Diesel Denim Gallery we look to support art that makes you think. Whether the art it is explosive, controversial, or inspiring Diesel holds no boundaries when collaborating with artists." Sebastien Agneessens, curator at the Diesel Denim Gallery store says, "Working together with Diesel, Moooi, Jaime Hayon and publisher Die Gestalten Verlag is more than a privilege, it is a unique chance. This international creative quartet tirelessly showcases design to our amused eyes, sharing with us their playful, sometimes ironic vision of the world and fostering inspired collaborations."

The NYC installation will open to the public on May 19th, from 7pm-9pm and will coincide with the release of Jaime Hayon Works, the first monograph of the artist, to be released by Berlin-based publisher Die Gestalten Verlag.

Interesting Tid-Bits:
Jaime Hayon, a true rising star in the international creative scene, embodies a new type of creative Renaissance man who can use his unique stylistic language across various areas of media with his interdisciplinary approach and extraordinary talent. Born in Madrid in 1974, Hayon was trained as an industrial designer and worked as a researcher in Fabrica, Benetton's communication group. In 2004 he started his career and has kept his hands full of eclectic projects. Being a multi-faceted creator, Jaime's work has developed in various areas: from curatorial roles, to those of an artist, to that of a designer.

Moooi leads in the understanding of culture, human needs and technology by creating the most successful and innovative designs through collaborations with international artists and designers such as Ross Lovegrove, Front, Studio Job and Jasper Morrison.

The Diesel Denim Gallery (DDG) is a concept store positioned between retail spaces and art galleries. Located in New York (68 Greene Street) and Tokyo, DDG links contemporary art to the DDG collection. The collection consists of limited-edition wearable works of art. Diesel also continues to support the arts worldwide through its Diesel Wall project, an art competition dedicated to you
ng artists and designers in which their original work is presented on monumental, freestanding vertical walls in the center of the world's most important cities.

Something For The Fellas

I've always wondered if men ever get sick of Tyra and all of the fuss revolving around America's Next Top Model. Well I have to wonder no more because VMAN Magazine, Ford Models and Diesel are on the search for America's Nest Top MALE Model! The winning model will be featured on the cover of the fall issue of VMAN, and will receive a contract with Ford Models. The jump-off {casting calls}, in partnership with Diesel, officially started on April 30th in New York at the Diesel store in Union Square, and will continue throughout the U.S. at 5 other Diesel stores in Dallas, Austin, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Aspiring models will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview with Ford talent scouts and have their picture taken. Each applicant's form will then be filed for consideration in the contest, joining the 800+ people who have already entered the search.

"We're always on the lookout for new talent and this is an excellent opportunity for aspiring models," said Ford Models CEO John Caplan. "The VMAN Model Search also allows us to bring Ford Models to the public and attract individuals that might not otherwise consider modeling. By partnering with VMAN Magazine, we've attached a prize that's impressive on even the most experienced model's resume."
Aspiring male models should pre-register at
www.fordmodels.tv. Applicants that are unable to attend in person may apply online at www.VMAN.com. Auditions are from 4:00-8:00pm at the following Diesel locations:

"Successful Living" From Diesel

Diesel, has launched a new home line called Successful Living from Diesel.
The collection, “Is built around a rock ‘n’ roll and casual living concept, which incorporates Diesel’s trademark style and attitude,” the press release says.
“All the iconic brand’s core values - its rebelliousness, irony and irreverence! - have been translated into a new textile collection characterized by innovative, creative design, yet timeless vintage appeal, combined with an ultra-modern and quirky twist.”
If they apply similar viral marketing tactics to their home collection as they have to their fashion campaigns, there’s no doubt the line will be a tremendous success.
The line was launched this week after an ultra hip party at Salone Del Mobile, the Diesel penthouse which overlooks Milan. The hotspot was decked out in ultra funky decor while simultaneously showcasing the fabulous new Successful Living collection.
After that event, the party moved to the ‘Special kubik Club,’ a “unique party project” (not just a party, it’s a project!) organized by Balestra Berlin, Modulorbeat and light designer Andreas Barthelmes.
“Plastic tanks, illuminated in different colours, moved in synch to music,” the press release says. “Full to capacity, the party saw guests mingling with Renzo Rosso - President and Founder of Diesel - with entertainment stars, the world’s fashionistas and top fashion press that included Pierre Casiraghi, Francesca Versace, Karim Rashid, Fabio Novembre and Elisabetta Canalis. Music was provided by DJ’s Stefano Fontana & Alex Gopher and was the perfect backdrop for an evening of stylish fun.”

Celebrity Fashion Robots - Gwyneth Paltrow In Vogue

The intrigue with futurism and robots has permeated the fashion industry, with space-inspired styles supplementing the growing integration of robots and smart technologies in our daily lives.
Labels like Diesel have captured these elements in futuristic photoshoots, but to further solidify the movement and take it to the next level—potentially pushing mainstream—top tier sartorial magazines are capturing celebrities in galactic wardrobes.
In a shoot by Steven Klein, Gwyneth Paltrow posed in a bikini for Vogue with slicked back hair and smoky eyes that would have made for a beautiful, yet ordinary, editorial spread, but the fashion magazine dared to awe by transforming her right arm into a robotic aparatus.
The shoot was meant to promote her new movie, Iron Man, but it worked as so much more. In addition to adding something unconventional yet cutting edge in terms of fashion, it was also a clever way to accentuate the muscle tone in her body without making it about sexual objectification.
