Chanel To Present Paris-Moscow Collection

T
hough Coco Chanel may be considered the quintessential femme Parisienne, it turnes out that she was fascinated by the near East--and Karl Lagerfeld must agree. Next month, Chanel will debut the Paris-Moscow Collection, a collection using the craftsmanship of the Metiers d'Art. For the yearly fall collection, Lagerfeld has looked to cities like Paris, New York, Tokyo, Monte Carlo, and London; this year, Chanel will take its inspiration from Moscow. The Chanel obsession with all things russe goes back to the days of Coco, who was fascinated by Russian artists like Stravinsky, Diaghilev and Lifar. (She even created a fragrance of Cuir de Russie with Ernest Beaux, the perfumer of the tsars.) The collection will be presented Wednesday, December 3, in the Ranelagh Theatre in Paris.

Marc Jacobs To Pay $1 Million In Bribery Case

The New York State Attorney General has nailed designer Marc Jacobs for allegedly bribing a State official so he could get a desirable venue for his fashion show.

A.G. Andrew Cuomo says Jacobs's company, Marc Jacobs International, has agreed to pay a $1 million fine.

According to docs, Jacobs wanted the 69th Regiment Armory, run by the State. The A.G. claims James Jackson, the former Superintendent of the 69th Regiment Armory, demanded bribes from Jacobs and others over an eight-year period to use the Armory.

A company founded by fashion designer Marc Jacobs has paid $1 million to resolve an allegation that it bribed a New York state employee.

Marc Jacobs International was accused last winter of repeatedly paying off a superintendent at a National Guard armory so it could secure the building for its celebrity-studded fashion shows in New York City.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced the settlement Wednesday.

Neither Jacobs nor the company will face formal charges in the scandal.

The armory superintendent pleaded guilty to a bribery indictment on Nov. 7. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

The company said in a written statement that it was pleased to be done with the matter.

Too Hot!!!-Miami's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Victoria's Secret angels descended upon Miami Beach on the weekend to showcase the next season's fashion in women's underwear.

Singer Usher kicked off the Victoria's Secret show, which featured 35 supermodels, some wearing angel wings.

Models, including Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr, strutted down the runway at the newly renovated Fontainebleau Miami Beach during the show, which coincided with the opulent reopening of the hotel.

"The theme of the show is a return to glamour," said company CEO Sharen Turney. "Victoria's Secret is about sexy, and the new sexy is glamorous for this season."

The catwalk glittered and two silver palm trees adorned the stage. Models showed 68 outfits, including the $US5 million ($7.5 million) Black Diamond Fantasy Miracle Bra worn by Adriana Lima and designed by jeweller Martin Katz.

It is decorated with white and black diamonds and rubies, and will be for sale in the company's catalogue, Katz said.

"You could wear it as an open top," he said. "It looks like a finished top."

Lima said she was excited to be wearing it.

"I always wanted to wear the Fantasy Bra. It's the first time that Victoria's Secret makes a black diamond bra," Lima said. "A woman could definitely buy it if they love it and men too."

Themes in the show included glamourous goddesses and bold colours with geometric designs influenced from the 1920s. Professional dancers wore one-piece bathing suits for one segment.

Some models wore gilded bras with Swarovski crystals attached. There was also a gold sculpted feather body piece that curved around the model's body. Metal sculpted laurel leaves were also worn around some of the models' necks.

For the finale, Klum stepped onto the catwalk in a red bra, underwear and sparkling, red wings, which were made to resemble a bow on a present.

Wing designer Martin Izquierdo made seven pairs of wings for the show. He said he turned to Greek mythology, butterflies and even designed a pair with spiderwebs on rose branches that are composed of crystals.

Celebrities spotted on the pink carpet included P Diddy, Russell Simmons, Michelle Trachtenberg, John Stamos, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and Martha Stewart.

Barbie-A Fashion Brand?

50 years later and Barbie is still making moves. The iconic doll will be reaching it’s 50th milestone next year with a serious marketing game plan by Mattel - making the Barbie brand more than a household name…but in fact a fashion brand! Mattel will be lining up new partnership deals with Jeremy Scott, Vera Wang, Bloomingdales, IMG and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. In February, as a part Fashion Week in NYC - 50 undisclosed designers will produce life-sized ensembles inspired by the iconic Barbie doll. In addition a new line of beauty products will be featured such as; “All Doll’d Up” for color cosmetics & “Plastic Smooth” for skin treatments - all of which is slated for release in 2009. Mattel will also open House of Barbie in Shanghai, which will be the first of many potential global locations Mattel.inc hopes to expand .

Mattel General Manager / Senior Vice President said: “At a time most brands will retreat, we will move ahead aggressively.”

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of “The Wizard Of OZ” - Waner Bros. Partnered with Swarovski along with 19 designers such as; Manolo Blahnik, Botiker, Alberta Ferretti, Giuseppe Zanotti, and many more to re-create Dorothy’s iconic ruby slippers - which were also exhibited at Bryant Park during Week this past September. Among other projects, Vera Wang will be designing a life-size wedding gown - priced over a whopping $15,000, which will also include a miniature version of the Wang creation. Jeremy Scott will unveil a capsule collection inspired by Barbie for next spring. Mattel is planning to launch a Barbie theme “shop-in-shop” at Apothia in the Fred Segal retail complex in Santa Monica, California.

Barbie’s parent company Mattel will jump start things come February, where the three-year partnership with the CFDA will begin sponsoring the IMG-organized Mercedes-Benz Week in New York festivities. Mattel is considering helping fund scholarships and organize panels, while the CFDA is helping Mattel find designers within the association’s 350 members who will participate in February’s runway show.
