Tommy Hilfiger

Less than a year after it agreed an exclusive strategic alliance with Macy's, Tommy Hilfiger has now rolled out the sportswear line that the department store retailer will sell exclusively in the US.

Both companies see the deal as a win-win situation, with Macy's hoping the well-known brand will draw customers into its stores and set it apart from its rivals, and Tommy Hilfiger relishing the chance to focus its wholesale team on one nationwide account and garner increased exposure in the retailer's 800 stores.

Like many department stores, Macy's is struggling to gain momentum as consumers cut back on apparel and other discretionary items amid rising food and fuel prices and the ongoing housing slump.

First-half profits plummeted as the company bore the brunt of charges of consolidating its three divisions under a reorganisation plan announced in February, while first-half same-store sales fell 2.2%.

But Macy's says it continues to out-perform "most of our major competitors in same-store sales" – and is clearly hoping that exclusive lines from high-profile designers like Hilfiger (deals are already in place with the likes of Elie Tahari and Oscar de la Renta) will give it the boost it needs.

It's also a touch ironic that its possible saviour, Tommy Hilfier, was itself languishing in the doldrums not so long ago, after struggling to realign itself into more sophisticated, pricier markets. Now, though, it's setting itself up for global expansion after posting a record 23.9% hike in full year earnings in June on a 14.4% jump in sales. What a difference three years make.

Favorites Of The Day

I was telling Lexie just the other day that I would love to see her in some straight-straight legged jeans. I think she'd be gorgeous in them. And they're a hot commodity this season. Not trying to be too pushy---I think I'm going to pick up a pair or two for her! She definitely can rock them. She has that sculpted body that you just must have if you are going to pull them off. Straight legged jeans---just one of the three of my favorite things of the day.

Herve Leger by Max Azaria

The only words you need to know in order to understand Hervé Léger by Max Azria? Bandage dress. It's the staple garment of the brand popularized by celebs like Victoria Beckham, Kate Bosworth and Keira Knightly.

At the Spring 2009 show on Sunday, Sept. 7, more than a few PYT’s sat front row wearing Hervé Léger, including Kate Mara, Joy Bryant, Lou Dollion, Maria Sharapova, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Trachtenberg, Leonor Verela, and Melissa George.

Though the BCBG Max Azria Group acquired Hervé Léger in 1998, it wasn't until 2007 that Azria fully realized the label with his own designs. Even so, Azria continues to observe the legacy of the fashion house with those sexy, curve-hugging dresses.

So there were no surprises at this season for Spring 2009; instead, Azria subtly tweaked the dresses with geometric appliqués and a jolt here and there with neon inserts against neutral color, a trend emerging this elsewhere this week in New York. Azria also created an ombre effect with bands of color on some of the dresses, and a steel foil bandage dress looked like armor for a future robot princess. Trim tailored leather jackets had their own version of ombre with the addition of "airbrush" inserts. The finale included a parade of bandage swimsuits that looked like cut-out versions of the dresses, except even more alluring.

Overall, the collection was consistent with the Hervé Léger image, but once the fad wears off for the bandage dress, it will be interesting to see where Azria takes the label.

You can see the entire collection at Style.com.

Gotta Tip 4 U!

Now I'm the first one to scrutinize these different products that are sold on TV or through a website. I mean I felt that most of those TV products were junk anyway. But when I ran across a way to wash your clothes without landry soap I was like, YEAH RIGHT!!! So I went ahead and ordered them thinking I'll just get my money back after the 90 days. I'll be ***@@@!!!, they really work. So you can see for yourself at http://mypowerfulmanets.com I just thought I'd pass the tip along!

Mobile Ads Will Be Worth $12 Billion By 2011

Ok, here we go. I mentioned this in an earlier post. Now just wait, our cell phones and PDA's will be crammed with advertising, (Just what we need!) I know, I know I want it both ways, I want the ability to purchase using my PDA but I do not necessarily want to be bothered with advertisements! What's a girl to do?

The worldwide mobile advertising market will be worth more than $12 billion by 2011, Gartner forecasts, but cautions that carriers must be careful if they want to get a piece of the pie, especially since well-established players such as Nokia, Google, Yahoo, MySpace and Microsoft ) are all pursuing the mobile revenue opportunity as well. King-Yew Foong, a Gartner research director, said operators should take advantage of their position, and use SMS and MMS, email, mobile search, location-based services to deliver targeted advertising messages, while at the same time regulating spam and a user’s privacy. The report also found that they have to convince advertisers and marketers of how they are different from the internet search giants such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, and other traditional advertising mediums, such as newspapers and TV. The report concludes that right now, carriers are not credible players, but they can successfully leverage their relationships with customers, knowledge of local markets, extensive customer databases, network control and multiple channel access.
